Annan Calls Global Food Crisis a Moral Failing
Former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan criticized world leaders Thursday for failing to take bold action on climate change, which he said threatens to worsen the food crisis that has already left a billion people hungry. Speaking at Stanford University, the Nobel Peace Prize winner said rising temperatures and rainwater shortages are having a devastating effect on food production. Failing to address the problem will have repercussions on health, security and stability, he warned. "Yet so far, our generation — my generation — of leaders, including those here in the United States, have failed to find the vision or courage to tackle it," Annan said. "This lack of long-term collective vision and leadership is inexcusable." Annan said the food crisis is an unconscionable moral failing and a brake on overall development. |

"Japan’s deflation is a big burden on the economy"- that's not deflation, it's falling prices! thus it is again being spent, only not for consumption. This "fear of deflation" is just a ruse by central banks to keep inflating the money supply. Deflation does not keep people from spending – they always spend what's necessary. Money never lies completely idle to any extent whether there's inflation, deflation, stability or a solar eclipse. For deflation to seriously happen, not only the current extreme credit expansion by the central banks and states (through "quantitative easing", stimulus packages, monetising and then spending national debt etc.) but also the money that was released into the economy PRIOR to the collapse would have to be "mopped up" again. And money NOT "spent" is then saved which means it is credit to someone who invests it for capital goods etc. This is nowhere to be seen nor would it be technically possible (confiscation aside) so we will rather see inflation than deflation .
